YFC shows Jesus' love to students through prayer
Our Roosevelt High School Campus Club was picking up speed until it went online due to COVID-19 restrictions. Sarah, a junior from Roosevelt, shares her struggles below.
"I am really into volleyball, but this past season I got hurt. I buckled to the floor as my knee gave out during practice one day. I was shocked, scared, and devastated when my doctor told me that I might need reconstructive surgery. During this time, I felt lost and that part of me was dying.
Not too long after, during a Roosevelt YFC club meeting, one of the leaders shared about how God loves and accepts us no matter what. Even though I felt that my identity and self-worth had been lost because of this injury, I learned that God views me as his child and loves me unconditionally-- with or without volleyball. I am not defined by anything else but God’s love for me.
After that meeting, I decided that I should step out in faith and ask the leaders to pray for healing in my knee. The YFC leader and several youth pastors prayed for me right in the school hall at Roosevelt. I was so touched by God and felt so cared for by the leaders that I started crying. A week later, my doctor said that I didn’t have any tears in my knee and wouldn’t be needing surgery.
I am so thankful that adults like you pray for me and support our club. Even now during school closure, we still meet virtually as a YFC club where I continue to be supported and loved. Praise God that he gives me purpose and has given me back the gift of my knee.”
