A Slice of Pizza Can Change a Student’s Life: Feeding the Body and the Soul
I stumbled into CORE, the YFC club at Kalani three years ago. During 10th grade, I took chorus during the period right before lunch. One Wednesday, as I was getting ready to go to lunch, a rush of students came into our room. I decided to stay and see what all the commotion was about.
We played a game, ate pizza, and the YFC Campus Director began to share with us about God and how knowing Him would change our lives. I never heard about God in this way. My parents don't go to church and are not religious. During middle school, my dad had abandoned my mom and me. I didn't know why he would do such a thing. My mom kept the reason from me for years. I found out that he had left us because he had an affair and started a new family. I was devastated.
I would say that God used the YFC club to encourage me and give me hope during this dark time in my life. Today as a senior, I am a YFC student leader and I love learning about God, how much he loves me and that he would never abandon me. My mom still struggles with depression and the will to live. Because of what I learn in club and leadership meetings, I can share with her the hope that I found. Thank you for supporting and investing in students like me!
