Jesus Sets Students Free from Their Past at Kalani
Up until middle school, I thought my parents would never get a divorce. My dad was the pastor of a huge church and my whole family was involved. Then during freshman year at Kalani, my mom told me that she wanted to divorce my dad. My younger sister, older brother, and I were shocked and heartbroken. How could our family break apart when we have been in church all of our lives?
Starting high school with this news left me alone and devastated. We stopped going to church. I didn’t know how to talk about it with my friends or family, so my parents sent me to a psychiatrist. That didn’t work either. I became more depressed and angry.
At the start of Sophomore year, my friend invited me to the YFC Campus Life club. I sensed something different about the people in that room. The YFC leaders and student leaders had a glow and love about them. This past Easter I heard about the death and resurrection of Jesus. I realized what an amazing, miraculous, and loving act Jesus did on the cross. I realized that He not only paid for all of my sins, but the sins of my family and parents. I was free from my past mistakes and guilt that I carried around from my parents’ divorce.
Thank God for YFC Campus Life clubs and for having one at my school at Kalani. Because of what Jesus did, I am no longer alone and now I can be made whole again.
