Help Is On the Way and Hope Will Be Delivered
Youth for Christ staff members have no idea what is going on in kids’ lives when they first walk into a club. A student can look like nothing is wrong, but when they open up, we find much more. One of the things Leila does at the Kaimuki High School YFC club is ask the students for their “highs” and “lows”, the best part and worst part of their week. This allows the students to open up and share struggles to receive prayer, as well as reflect on the good things in life. One of the students shared his struggles with being hit at home. To his surprise Leila still asked for a “high.” He replied, “Have you heard my week? This was the worst week of my life; there is no ‘high’.” Leila knows how important it is to be thankful, even in hard times. So, she asked again. And he replied, “This pizza.”
It really is that simple. For these students just having a piece of pizza and a safe place to go is the highlight or the only good thing about their week. The student shared how he was going to use his gift for singing to help other people be happy. We are so thankful to have the opportunity and incredible blessing to be a part of these clubs and to introduce these students to Jesus.
